| Introduction |
At Kimberly-Clark de Mexico (KCM) we are totally aware that, in addition to providing products that improve our consumers' overall well being, we are part of a community and, as such, we participate in specific programs focused towards making this world a better world. To this effect, we provide resources, time and talent to a number of environmental protection initiatives; a description of the most relevant efforts follows:
Mexico is blessed with precious ecosystems and native species. Unfortunately, sometimes they are threatened or endangered; KCM constantly takes part in programs, like those of Unidos para la Conservación, for the protection of berrendos (deer-like wild mammal found in the Mexican highlands), vaquitas marinas (acuatic calf), the royal eagle and other valuable species found in our country.
KCM operates four mills that recycle several grades of wastepaper in such a manner that the fiber obtained during this process allows for the substitution of up to 280,000 metric tons per year of virgin pulp in our products' manufacturing. On the other hand, KCM has a permanent capital investment program to increase the re-circulation of water and improve the quality of effluents at our production sites.
